2025 Travel Information
For our Girls Surf Camp, we offer Free Airport Shuttles on Opening & Closing Days. We will have a staff member waiting for your camper at baggage claim when they arrive and on departure day we will have a staff member accompany your camper through check-in and get them into the security line.
Please fly into and out of Kahului, Maui (airport code OGG).
ARRIVALS
Here are some things to consider while arranging their flights for the Girls Surf Camp:
Please arrange for your camper to arrive no later than 3pm on Opening day. If your only option is for arrival after 3pm, please contact [email protected] for Late or Early (prior night) arrival procedure. Early arrival does have a fee.
Unaccompanied Minor Service: If your child is under 14 years old, some airlines require you to pay for this added service. If not required, you should still have the option to pay for this service if that is something you would like to add on to their travel plans. This option would require you to fill out paperwork that shows our camp representative’s contact information, the person who will be picking up your child at the gate from an airline representative. You will need to pay the airline’s fee for the entire round trip ticket for this service.
If your camper will be arriving by car, please be at Camp Olowalu on Opening Day by 3pm at the latest.
DEPARTURES
Please schedule their departure flight ideally between 11am-5pm on Closing day. If departing after 5pm, there is a late departure fee of $20/hr after 3pm for a staff member to be present with your camper until their airport drop off 2 hrs prior to departure time. This fee will go towards food, entertainment, etc before the flight.
If your camper will be picked up from camp, please arrive to get them anytime before 9am on Closing Day.
Before the camp start date, you will receive an email link to our travel form. Please complete our Girls Surf Camp travel form with your airline itinerary so we can arrange your airport shuttle.
Packing List
One of the most common questions that we receive after a booking for girls surf camp is “What should we bring?”. Please review our packing lists below to set your camper up for success. Our camp store will have many of these items available for purchase if you would prefer your camper to get these items once they arrive. Click the links to view items and size charts.
Required for Surfing
- 3 swim suits or more (sturdy and active style suits) – check out maui-girl.com for some great styles! Use code LOVESURF for 20% off!
- 1-2 pairs Surf pants or quick dry leggings (Especially for first time surfers, non-cotton material is best)
- 1 pair neoprene booties or water shoes (required for first timers or beginners who have never surfed over reef before)
- 1 Long sleeve rash-guard to prevent board rash/sunburns (for sale online or in camp store)
- 2 Reusable water bottles (1 qt. capacity, also for sale in our camp store)
- Reef-Safe Sunscreen 30+ SPF (NO chemical sunscreens – only Zinc or Titanium Dioxide). Our favorite is the SPF 33 Face+Body Tin

We will have beach towels available to rent for the week at $5 each if you would prefer to pack lighter. Keep an eye on your pre-camp emails for details.
- 1 day pack to pack sunscreen, water bottles and towel for the beach
Required for Camp
- 3 each of t-shirts, tanks, shorts and as many under
garments as you need for the week* (If camper has a habit
of misplacing items, it is a good idea to initial insides of
clothing, etc to make it easy getting lost and found items
back to them) - 1 sweatshirt check out our MSG Hoodie! (it does get chilly
at night sometimes) - 1 pair jeans or long pants
- 1 pair flip-flops (slippahs as we call them) or Tevas/Chacos
- 1 pair of closed toe shoes, comfortable for hiking
- 2 pairs of socks
- 1 brimmed hat
- 1 pair sunglasses
- 1 floral print or dressy t-shirt, skirt, or dress for our luau
- Pajamas
- Toiletry bag with toiletry items (shampoo, conditioner,
deodorant, soap, toothbrush & paste, etc) - Any medications needed for the week (camp does have the
basics-Tylenol, Motrin, etc) - 1 towel just for showers, optional washcloth (again, Turkish
towels pack small and dry quick) - 1 towel or sarong for sitting on the lawn at camp or to
stretch/do yoga (mats not provided and camp doesn’t have
enough beach chairs for everyone to sit in during circle time) - Headlamp or flash light (and batteries)
- Light blanket or light sleeping bag and pillow**
*There are laundry facilities available. Our coin operated machine is $2.50 /load! We will have quarters to trade for dollars as well as detergent.
**We provide a bottom sheet for all campers, but all other bedding (blankets, pillows or top sheets) must be provided from you. The nights can get cool enough that a light blanket is nice.
Extras
Please PACK LIGHTLY, the more you pack the more you have to keep track of!
- Back up sunglasses, towels, or other stuff you know there
might be a habit of losing 🙂 - Small handheld mirror or compact if desired, the one large mirror in each bathroom can get backed up if multiple people are trying to do makeup, etc
- Eye masks or earplugs if needed for sleeping
- Your own surfboard (optional)
- Reading material (e-readers are allowed as long as they do not connect to internet, have books downloaded before camp) and/or Journal/pen
- Camera – you will have limited access to your
smartphone (please read our camp technology policy tab on our website), so we recommend bringing a GoPro or other waterproof camera!! - Hammock
- Money for the camp store (with hats, rash guards, shirts, hoodies and more for sale!) We accept cash, Venmo or can
run credit cards via Square. - Watch (as long as it is not a smartwatch that connects to internet)
CIT Extras
Space can be tight so it’s important for CITs to pack lightly, as we will be camping during training and we need to fit everyone's luggage plus equipment into one vehicle. Also keep in mind you will be sharing space with five other campers plus their luggage in your cabin. In addition to the items Required for Surfing & Required for Camp (see other tabs), our CIT's also need to pack the following items:
- Waterproof watch to check time during surf sessions
- Cellphone & any necessary chargers (CIT’s are only campers allowed to keep their phones on them during camp session)
- Tapestries, posters, or other small packable items you would like to incorporate into your personalized cabin decorations. Maui Surfer Girls has a limited selection of items available for decor.
- Music playlists downloaded prior to camp (sometimes our van drivers allow CIT’s to be their co-pilot DJ’s)
- Some form of alarm clock to make sure you are awake on time to get your surf pod ready (phone, watch, etc-whatever works best for you
