Meet our Camp Chefs!
One of the highlights from each summer is always the FOOD! We are blessed to find amazingly talented chefs who join us for camp, cooking up three healthy and delicious meals each day!
This summer will will feature two separate head chefs, Krystine Nakano for our teen camps and Lucas Erwin for the women’s camp. Meet our camp chefs:
Meet Krystine
Krystine Nakano, Teen Camp Chef
This will be Krystine’s first year with Maui Surfer Girls! She was born in Japan, grew up in Oahu and moved to Maui six years ago. Her passion for food started in her senior year of high school, which carried on to college where she graduated from University of Hawaii’s Maui Culinary Academy. She is currently working at Tommy Bahama in Wailea. When she’s not running around in a kitchen, you can catch her running after her two-year old daughter, Naiya. See some of Krystine’s recent creations!
Lucas Erwin, Women’s Camp Chef
Lucas Erwin is a 30 year old sushi chef at Morimoto Maui, also located in Wailea. “Cooking is my passion in life, and I love to free dive in my off time. I am really looking forward to this opportunity to work with Maui Surfer Girls and showcase what I love to do! I hope to give everyone the best experience possible with great moments in food! I know we will all remember our summer with Maui Surfer Girls!” See below for some of Lucas’s amazing food!
The Kitchen
Located adjacent to our oceanfront cabins, the 900 sq. ft. dining hall of Camp Olowalu comes complete with a fully equipped kitchen, which includes 2 large refrigerators and 2 commercial-grade gas stovetop ovens. There are also 2 outdoor grills for any barbecue nights!
