8 Ideas for your Last Day on Maui
Top Tips for your Last Day on Maui
It’s a common conundrum- you have to be out of your hotel or condo by 10 or 11am and your flight is not until 10pm, how can you still get the most out of your last day on Maui, while making sure your luggage is secure, you aren’t salty and sandy on the flight home, and you dont miss the flight?
You aren’t alone in this dilemma, we hear about it all the time! We wanted to write this post to help everyone with some ideas for your final day on Maui.
- Use Bounce Luggage storage
If you still want to explore the island, but dont want to worry about all of your luggage being visible in your car, check out Bounce, located just a few minutes away from the airport. MSG Staff members have also confirmed that they do have showers so you are free to head to the beach and get rinsed off before you get on an overnight flight!
2. Get a Resort Pass or book a Spa Day
A few hotels offer a day rate with Resort Pass, so if you want to lounge by the pool, ordering up food and cocktails, and enjoy the sunny weather, this may be just what you are looking for to enjoy your last day on Maui. This can be a spendy option, but especially if you are staying in a condo or house that doesn’t have a pool or the resort luxuries, may be a fun splurge for the final day.
An alternative, especially if there aren’t children on the trip, would be to book spa services at many of the resorts. Some of them offer use of the facilities, including adult pool, showers, etc, after your treatments. A nice massage or facial might be the perfect way to relax before getting on a long plane ride.
3. Find a Beach Park
If you just want to dive in the ocean or walk along the sand, but don’t want to bring the salt or the sand back home with you, there are beach parks all along the north shore (on the airport side) that have open-air showers, including Kanaha Beach Park, Paia Bay, and Hookipa Beach Park.
4. Take a Dip
Did you know that Maui has free public pools all around the island? There are pools in Lahaina, Kihei, all around central Maui, and even upcountry.
5. Check your gym or country club memberships.
If you are a member of the Y or Planet Fitness, they have gyms in central Maui! Call and see if you can use their facilities with your membership. If you are the member of a yacht or country club, see if Maui Country Club (located in Paia) offers reciprocal memberships. You can park in their secured lot, check out the beach, have dinner at the restaurant, and enjoy the clean showers!
6. Book an extra night at your accommodations!
Experienced travelers have recommended this option if your flight is particularly late in the evening, no stress about early morning packing, what to do with bags, or where to shower before the flight.
7. Ask for late checkout or for the front desk to hold your luggage.
If the hotel isn’t super busy, you get a lovely check-in desk person, or you have rewards status at your hotel, ask if you can get a late checkout! The other tip is to just leave your luggage by the front desk, but you can still use the pool and other facilities all day! Morning checkout times are just for the room, not the entire resort!
8. Get close to the airport.
Savvy travelers know that getting close to the airport can be a smart move to avoid getting stuck in traffic or somewhere that only has one road in and out. The most likely places to get stuck (either because of an accident, rock slide, brush fire, or other highway closure) would be the entire West Side (from Olowalu through Kapalua), or the Hana area. If you are in Kihei, central Maui, or Upcountry, there are a few ways to get back to the airport, so being stuck there would be rare.
