Alumni MSG’s reunited in Oahu

One thing that I value and try to in still at our surf camps is a sense of o’hana or family.  I witnessed this over the weekend on Oahu.  Alumni campers, Gaby Barsotti, Nicole Nakamura, and Kara Miller now all attend college at UH and HPU in Honolulu.  Gaby attends her first year at Hawaii Pacific University and moved in with Nicole Nakamura, who is in her 3rd year at UH majoring in Art.  I flew to Oahu to help Gaby settle into her new life there and delivered two of her MSG surfboards from Maui (“Mama D” board caddy duties.)

Kara Miller was Gaby’s “cabin mama” five years ago.  Gaby, at 5’10, towers over Kara, when 5 years ago the tables were turned.  She now has Kara as a “college mama” to help guide Gaby on her new journey as a college student.

Here’s some cool photos from our weekend.  We even ran into legendary Waikiki Beach Boy, Rabbit Kekai at the Duke Fest.
